Adelaïde - World Tennis Challenge , January 7-8

As for many years Henri starts his season in Australia. First stop on January 7th and 8th in Adelaide for the World Tennis Challenge.
Henri is at the head of the "Team Leconte" composed of Victoria Azarenka and Fernando Verdasco. In front of them the "Team Cash": the captain Pat Cash lines up Eugenie Bouchard and Borna Coric.
Schedule: 2 singles and a double in the early evening.

Handicap International - InterNations tennis tournament , February 10

InterNations organized its 3rd tennis tournament for Handicap International, witch the final was played on February 10. Henri was there to give the awards and congratulate InterNations for all the work done in the field of education.

Les Contamines , February 25

The first preparation meeting for the next Open des Contamines took place on February 25th with the Mayor Etienne Jacquet and the teams working on the tournament. Henri Leconte, the godfather of the event since 2016 was also there. Many beautiful ideas are being studied.

100th title for Roger Federer !

Roger Federer's incredible and exceptional career continues! Aged 37, he won his 100th title in Dubai against the young Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (11th in the world, member of NextGen) and thus joined the very closed club of players who have won 100 tournaments and more, alongside Jimmy Connors (winner of 109 tournaments) !!

Since his 1st title in January 2001 in Milan (against Frenchman Julien Boutter), the Swiss have never ceased to write the history of tennis and sport.

Good news for all his fans: he plans to come and defend his title next year. So we will still be able to see him play a few months before he puts his rackets away for good!!

Small detour by the Ch'Nord, his native region, for Henri! The opportunity for him to meet Mickaël Fontaine, "the man with the tent" (cf tournament of Contamines) and Patrick Comte, chef of the restaurant "Histoire Ancienne" in Calais, without forgetting the night walks along the beaches!

It's at the castle of Sedan that Henri gave a new conference on self-improvement with the Made in Ardennes Business Club. Well done and thank you to the participants and to the organization for this excellent moment shared with you !!

Start of season review

The first part of the 2019 season is over, it is time to come back to the main facts.

-Djokovic wins the Australian Open by being at the top of his form as the rounds go on. Nadal proved it in the final.

-Federer's defeat early in the tournament made his fans fear the worst. False alarm: a few weeks later he wins his first title of the year in Dubai but above all the 100th of his career!! Decidedly insatiable, he follows with a superb American tour on hard by reaching the final in Indian Wells (against Thiem) and especially by winning in Miami (against Isner).
With these results, he is number 1 in the Race just ahead of Djokovic, author of some poor performances during this same period.

-French players also had good results, especially Lucas Pouille (1/2 finalist in Melbourne) and Gaël Monfils winner in Rotterdam (Masters 500). Jo Tsonga comes back (soon in the 100) and wins the Montpellier tournament.

Young Grégoire Barrère (winner of the Challengers of Quimper and Lille), Corentin Moutet (winner in Chenaï) and Ugo Humbert (winner in Cherbourg) are present and are proving themselves on the circuit little by little.

-The famous "NextGen" is becoming more and more pressing with now 5 players of this generation in the Top 35 (Tsitsipas, De Minaur, Tiafoe, Shapovalov and Auger Aliassime, the last 2 reaching the semi-finals in Miami).

-After an absence in March due to injury, Nadal is back on clay this week, his favourite surface. He's hungry for victories and records (he'll try for a 12 in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Roland Garros!) but will his body hold out?

Will Djokovic be back to his level of the beginning of the year after a small decline?
Will Federer, who is returning to clay court after a three-year absence, have a role to play?
Start answering all these questions (and many more) in the next few days ... and congratulations to Benoit Paire who just won the Marrakech tournament! A good sign for the future!

La Wantzenau , April 10-11

For two days Henri was in Alsace, in La Wantzenau, for a lunch and dinner conference at the restaurant "Le Relais de la Poste" run by Mrs Caroline Van Maenen and her team.

Lyon - Rhône Business Club , May 21

A few days before the beginning of Roland Garros, Henri went to Lyon (Parilly racecourse) to give a new conference on self-improvement oneself with the Lyon Rhône Business Club.

French Interclub Seniors Ladies Championships

Beginning of the ladies interclub DN1B 2019 this May. They take place on 5 Sundays between May 5 and June 2. The 24 teams are divided into 4 pools of 6 and the matches take place alternately at home or away.
The Levallois Tennis Club, of which Henri Leconte the president, is in pool A.

-May 5: LSCT win away against TC Marignane --> 4 wins to 2
-May 12: LSCT win at home against Pierrelatte TC --> 6 wins to 0
-May 19: LSCT win away against Montfermeil Tennis --> 4 wins to 2
-May 26: LSCT win at home against AS Montferrand --> 4 wins to 2
-June 2nd: LSCT win away outside against Saint Gaudens Tennis Club --> 4 victories to 2

At the end of these six meetings, the LSCT finds itself 1st of its pool and goes up in DN1A. Henri is therefore a happy club president: "Congratulations to all the players, you have been at the top during all these games! Congratulations to all the staff and especially Robert Asator (sports director) and Jonathan Milsztajn (team captain)! You did a great job, I'm very proud of you! Let's continue on this great dynamic!"

Levallois Perret - Press Conference , June 6

Thursday, June 6 Henri and his club welcomed the Open des Contamines teams and the media to present the international women's and handisport tournament which will take place from July 22nd to 28th.

40 representatives of the international press were present to discover this event presented by Yann Maître (tournament director) and Henri Leconte (godfather of the tournament) as well as "Femmes au sommet", the complementary news to the tournament this year.

Thanks to the partners of these two events, some of whom came to Paris, such as Patrick Favret of the Favret Automobiles Group, Vincent Guerra of PRC Capital and Michel Perrot of the Ligue Auvergne Rhône Alpes Tennis.

French Open - "SOS Autisme" , June 7

Godfather with Philippe Bas, Christophe Michalak and Julie Ludd, of "SOS Autisme" chaired by Mrs. Olivia Cattan, Henri had several children from this association play for a morning on one of the French Open courts. Despite the gloomy weather, the participants were all very happy to be able to hit a few balls.


Bravo and thank you to the French Tennis Federation for making this event possible.
Congratulations also to Olivia and her team who are doing a great job.

Luxembourg - Adenom Cup , June 11-12

This new edition of the Adneom Cup, organized in partnership with the company Adneom and HL&Co, was played at the Tennis Club des Arquebusiers. Henri Leconte was of course present with his friends Xavier Malisse and Thomas Enqvist. On the program: matches with clients, clinics with children, indoors ... or outdoors depending on the capricious weather !!

Like last year, the Senior Tour stopped in Scotland for the Brodies Tennis Invitational at Gleneagles. The players ... and two tenniswoman met to play this tournament in a magical place!

Sweden - Svaneholm Open , Senior Tour , June 26-29

Two stages of the Senior Tour in June! After Scotland, head to Sweden and the Svaneholm Open in a superb setting, a newcomer to this Legends circuit.
John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Goran Ivanisevic and Henri Leconte are each respectively captains of their countries during these few days of competition held in a very good atmosphere with a great weather!

Garisart - Arlon Open , Juin 30

On the sidelines of the 6th edition of the Arlon Open organized at the Tennis de Garisart (Belgium), an exhibition took place on the last day of the tournament with Olivier and Christophe Rochus, Gilles Muller and Henri under a beautiful sun and in a very good atmosphere.

In September the club will open a section dedicated to handisport, of which Henri will be the godfather: "I am very proud and honored. We don't do enough for people with disabilities in sport. The clubs are not doing enough. These children have a passion and we have to help them."

Note that a collector's tee-shirt signed by the biggest names in tennis (Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, McEnroe, Wilander and many others) was auctioned after the match and acquired for the magnificent sum of 5100 euros! The profits will be donated to associations such as Mistral Gagnant, a children's home in Habay and the newly launched handisport unit at TC Garisart.

Wimbledon , July 1-14

Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic win Wimbledon!

Djokovic Men's Final - Monumental, titanic, historic Federer (the longest in history!!!) concluded at the tie break of the 5th set (at 12-12)!! Federer may have some regrets since he had 2 match points in this decisive set but finally it's a 5th victory at Wimbledon for the Serbian now solid world number 1.
Next and last Grand Slam tournament: the US Open in early September!

On the Legends' side, Henri (associated with Patrick McEnroe) made a real success by letting the umpire play in his place for a few points in front of a hilarious audience!

Highlights

Open International des Contamines , July 22-28

The 22nd International Open des Contamines took place at the end of July. A tournament started under a strong heat but ended with autumnal temperatures! These difficult climatic conditions led the organizers to schedule the last matches of the paratennis tournament at the Tennis Club de Sallanches.

Congratulations to all for this beautiful tournament played in a magical and majestic setting!! Congratulations to the winners Joanne Zuger (singles), Zoé Maras (paratennis singles), Margaux Rouvroy / Aubane Droguet (doubles) and Zoé Maras / Pauline Hélouin (paratennis doubles) for your great victories!

A big thank you to all the organization, to Mr. Mayor Etienne Jacquet, Mr. Yann Maitre (director of the tournament), Mr. Carlos Ramos (referee) as well as all the partners and volunteers without whom this tournament could not take place.

US Open , August 26 - September 8

Two fantastics finals to close this US Open!
Young Canadian Bianca Andreescu (19) beats Serena Williams, who has yet to equal Margaret Court's 24-title record.

As for the men's final, it was magnificent, exceptional, monstrous ... a "mutant final" to use Henri's words. Rafa Nadal wins his 19th Grand Slam title (one length from Federer) in 5 sets and nearly 5 hours of play against THE player of the summer (4 tournaments, 4 finals including one title).: Daniil Medvedev, 23 years old and member of the famous NextGen. Leading by two sets he came back to level before losing 6-4 to the 5th. Dommage mais quel courage! Too bad but what courage!
Bravo and thank you gentlemen for this anthology match!

"Affaire conclue" , September 10

France 2 broadcasts a new prime of its flagship show "Affaire conclue" on France 2. Henri was one of the guests present on the show. He put on sale one of his rackets designed especially for him during French Open 1992 (where he reached the semi-finals) for the benefit of the association "SOS Autisme France" chaired by Mrs Olivia Cattan.

Handicap International - Exhibition , September 14

Annabelle Ribeaud, Claudine Schaul, Sofie Cox et Henri played under a beautiful sun a whole series of exhibition matches at the Tennis Club des Arquebusiers in aid of Handicap International.
More than 8000 euros were raised to help educate disabled children in Nepal.

"Bounce back after failure" was the theme addressed by Henri during his conference in Amiens at the Somme Business Club.

BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open , October 12-20

The 23rd edition of the Luxembourg Open, a women's WTA tournament, took place from 12 to 20 October. Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko won the title ahead of Julia George, the 2018 winner. Ostapenko, French Open's winner in 2017, is now coached by Marion Bartoli.
Tatiana Golovin, who is trying to come back to the circuit after an 11 years absence, lost in the first round of qualifying after getting a wild card from the organizers.

Henri was there throughout the week as a tournament ambassador.

Saint-Emilion - Björn Borg's induction with Henri Leconte, October 22

Big date this October 22nd for Björn Borg: with the support of Henri (who himself received the honors of induction in 2011), the multiple Swedish champion has indeed been inducted into the Jurade de Saint-Emilion.
After this memorable evening, both extended their stay to visit the Grands Crus Classés of the region.

Londres - Legend's ball , October 31

Present in London, Henri Leconte, Gregg Wallace, Philipp Vickery, Graeme Souness and many other personalities took part in the Legends' Ball, a prestigious event that celebrated its 30th anniversary and brought together many sports legends.

This charity event honored Mr.Simon Weston, an extremely well known and recognized personality in England. A veteran of the British army, he underwent 98 operations after his serious burns during the Falklands war.

Very involved with many associations, he is notably president of the Debra association which helps children known as "butterflies": suffering from a rare and orphan disease, they lose their skin, which is extremely fragile.

Paris - Limitless Tennis , November 2-3

Henri Leconte and Tatiana Golovin are participating this weekend in the "Limitless Tennis by ALL" project proposed by Accor (partner of the Bercy tournament).
The principle: to offer one of the members the opportunity to train with Tatiana on Saturday in order to be able to play a match against Henri on Sunday on the center court of the AccorHotels Arena.

Calais - Les sabots du coeur , 8 novembre

"Les Sabots du coeur" is an unusual and beautiful association. The main actor is a horse, Peyo, who has a talent: he goes to hospitals with his boss Hassen Bouchakour to comfort patients, especially children, the elderly and the vulnerable.
As its master says: "this horse is not ordinary, it is an exception, it lights up the day of every patient it meets".

Henri took part in the "Peyo's Dreams" evening in Calais on November 8th and discovered this extra ordinary horse... "I lived a unique moment. Thank you for sharing this unusual and exceptional experience with me!"
